Science and engineering technical files--general mechanics and measurement, 1914-1980 (bulk 1931-1980).

The records document Consumers' Research's interest in the theories and principles of general mechanics and products related to the measurement of thickness, volume, time, velocity, force, pressure, length, density, viscosity, fluid motion, vacuums, and humidity. Included are correspondence, notes, newspaper and magazine clippings, and advertisements. Also documented are Consumers' Research's product tests of instruments measuring pressure, length, time, and the weather. Consumers' Research conducted projects on rules or tape measures, timers, stopwatches and clocks, and physical testing equipment. Instruments tested or researched include micrometers, calipers, tachometers, dynamometers, pressure guage testers, manometers, liquid and air pressure guages, levels, and weather instruments such as barometers and hygrometers. Other subjects included are measurement of geometric and mechanical magnitudes (metric).
